Test SSD OCZ Vertex 2 Disk
November 2010
To change my old hard drive system in my MacPro (octocore 2008), I fell for a 240GB SSD drive from OCZ, purchased from MacWay.fr website for 417 €.
Here's a small speed test and my first impressions.
The openings of small programs such as calendar, address book, notepad, Mail, etc. are almost instantaneous.
After Effects seems to me much more fast, especially when I scroll in the timeline because video sources load faster, the preview and the render is also faster too !

In conclusion, it is happiness to use it ! but not for my credit card ....
As we can see from the picture, the disk is very small! Compared to a conventional hard disk.
For Mac Pro, the drive must be fixed with a special adapter (37 €).
First impression, it makes no noise (of course ... it's not mechanical) and is very appreciative.
To install it as system disk, you must first format it, before removing the old system disk.
I could easily split in 2 drives, 1 of 150 GB for the system, and 1 of 90 GB for my current projects.

Performance: Basically, it is almost 3 times faster than my old 150GB Raptor 10000 rpm !
